FYI Lecture Series: Growth of Ice Sheets on Antarctica: Climate Change 40 million years ago
During a dramatic climate transition 33.6 million years ago, Antarctica changed from a continent characterized by boreal forests to a continent covered by ice sheets miles thick. Scientists have long argued that this transition coincided with the tectonic separation of Antarctica from South America and Australia, and the subsequent development of a circumpolar current, isolating the new continent from warmer subtropical ocean waters.

The Iron Fork
The Iron Fork event will showcase some of Miami’s most popular chefs as they face off in a head-to-head cooking competition that will be judged by local area celebrities. During the exciting cooking competition, guests will enjoy cocktails, live music, and food samplings from a number of the city’s best restaurants. @MiaSci has quickly become the premiere gathering for the twenty and thirty something mover and shaker crowd in South Florida (just awarded SunPosts’ Best of Award for Young Professional Mixer.) Billed as the “Happy Hour with Substance,” the event combines a business mixer with a celebration of art and a twist of science. Attendees are not only entertained with the program, but they can enjoy of an open bar and an appetizer served throughout the evening along with local DJ’s spinning the best in house, trance and retro. All this is offered for just a $15.00 donation per person. The evening benefits Miami Science Museum’s educational programs.
